Putt-Putt Saves The Zoo is a game published in 1995 on CD-ROM by Humongous Entertainment. The audio was heavily crushed as typical of games in those days, but Curator has recovered the original recordings including music stems and studio sessions. I've had the immense privilege of working with those files to create this mix.
Folks, please help Curator to release the newly restored music of Humongous Entertainment. Their Kickstarter campaign is above. As always, thanks for tuning in folks!

This blew my mind!! I worked on this title! I was a digital sound editor, lip-syncher and animation optimizer for many Humongous titles during this era...Haven't thought of Putt Putt in years. Thank you for this blast from the past Pogo, and it is an honor to have you play with my sound files!!!!!!!! You just totally made my day...Thank you.

I've always wondered about the sound effects in HE games. I seems like similar sounds effects were shared not only across all of their titles but in other games/cartoons too. Did HE have access to some sort of large public sound effects library that other companies used as well? Not sure if you'd know this, but I thought I'd ask.
@@aaronhoward646 Hmmm...digging into dusty memory...I believe that as far as the sound effects, we used a little from column A and a little from column B...we made some sound effects in house (Foley and digital) and some were royalty free common sounds that were (and probably still are) publicly available. And as far as the voices, these were all actors that recorded our scripts in a music studio here in Seattle (Bad Animals, if I remember correctly).
@@eastercat You are so welcome! It warms my heart to know that the work we did turned out to be so meaningful and enjoyable to folk. If it means anything to you, I can tell you that while I was at HE, everyone there truly loved our characters and the work we were doing. I can honestly say that Putt Putt (and Spy Fox, Pajama Sam, etc.) were made with love. We weren't just trying to churn out titles, we were really wanting to make games people loved and could learn from while having fun. The fact that folk remember Putt Putt in this day and age just blows my mind!
@@albieclementi You should feel proud, many friends of mine (including myself) not only grew up with Putt Putt/Spy Fox/Pajama Sam/Freddi Fish, we also looove it!!
I still own the discs of most of those games, but recently I bought them online (via website: Steam).
If the day ever arrives that I would have childeren, I hope I can show these amazing games to them.
That HQ mix of the audio from an HE game is uncanny. It's like washing a window that hadn't been cleaned in years and finally seeing the sun shine through it again.
Not even sure how he pulled this off. Considering the quality of the source material, this sounds amazing.

It's because he got the actual sound files and not the ones directly from the game. That's why the audio's so darn crisp.

Bemi Atto usually games like this have bad audio but this is good
VestedWand372 when you pitch audio to sound like they are singing it can sound very unclear. He’s taking about how clear it sounds. I agree it’s amazing
I'm simultaneously impressed and jarred by how crisp it is. Like, it doesn't even sound quite like the audio I grew up playing and hearing a million times playing this game, which is phenomenal and fascinating, but it also leaves me kind of longing for a remix using the more bit crunched sounds you hear in the game itself. Don't misunderstand me, I love this as it is, but nostalgia is a hell of a drug and I'm in a weird spot where this sounds so much like what a remember and yet so different. Although, probably makes more technical sense that this is the way it is.
Putt-Putt is one of the all timers and this does so much justice to that.
I remember how many afternoons I’d spend in front an old school Mac just doing mundane things in this game like changing color or going to the food cart

OMG! This mix was awesome - thank you for supplying the stems! The Kickstarter is really cool too, I never imagined I'd be able to get an official CD box set (I love CD box sets) of HE stuff. So... I'm very excited!!

Back in the day you could of found demos for all of those games that you mentioned, you found them free in cereal boxes.
You can get those games on your phone. I admittedly have the Freddi Fish games 1-4 on my iphone 😅

Putt Putt was literally my childhood. And pogo your music got me through so much during highschool. Im so happy that you made this. Its absolutely amazing!
I always listen to your songs a couple of times to figure out which samples hit the deepest into my soul, which you’re incredibly good at doing. My favs from this one are the “misses her” from the giraffe, “never been away” from the snake, the hippo sample at 0:26, and “i hope she’s” from the elephant. Never thought you would take such an obscure staple of my childhood and make it into perfection! Well done as always

it’s crazy when you realize that some of the clips of music/sound that go into pogo’s videos are one second long and in the middle of a character’s dialogue. their dedication and time they put into this is insane, i’ve got mad respect 😤👊❤️ you’re crazy talented, pogo
We cut the original dialogue tapes-about 10 hours of recording sessions-which we found in a Seattle studio closet into about 2,000 separate lines and gave them to Nick to mix up. He did a great job!
I just realized you edited it so the characters are actually lipsyncing the lyrics! That's crazy (and fantastic)
Mary Katie I’m pretty sure all lyrics are just the actually voices of the game, just edited to sound differently. So he didn’t have to sync it
@@jasperbirkeneder8448 right! But I meant that none of the Humongous Entertainment games have actual lipsyncing in-game, the characters kinda jabber mouth along with the dialogue (unlike Pogo's video where they appear to mouth the exact words)

I have never seen or played Putt Putt saves the zoo but the first time I heard this I just swelled up with such a nostalgic feeling that I haven't felt in so long. Nick I say this from the bottom of my heart: thank you for being such an amazing artist and person. You have brought so much joy to my and so many others lives. I wish I could repay you for all that you've done.

Only watched Pogo's videos, Boy & Bear and Tiggerific as I love Winnie The Pooh, even still to this day, but was caught by surprise when I saw this in the recommended. Played the Putt Putt games many times, many years ago when I was a kid. What a huge hit of nostalgia this was

TO this very day, we still have Putt Put Saves The Circus and Saves The Zoo to this very day, placed inside of a CD-ROM zipper bag, waiting for me to insert it into my PC desktop from 2016 to play them once more.
I'm glad you were able to get the original uncompressed files from this game, hopefully you do the same with the other Humongous Entertainment pieces/games/audio/visuals as well.

To be honest, Travels Through Time, and Wins The Big Race (If those are even the correct names,) are the games I have the most memories with, but to even have a remix of Putt Putt really makes me reminisce.
