No, as long as they're enjoyable to watch. But the main problem is that I don't have much time to watch all of it , only in holidays I think.

I'll pick any long good anime series anytime. Watching it makes it special for me because I'm giving up my free time just to binge it instead of putting my time on some productive work lol.

One of the reason is if I'm watching a particular series for a long time, it will grow on me and will be part of my life. I don't want to be dramatic here but watching/reading Naruto for 10 years is such a treat for me and I don't regret it. Yes, most of the long running shounen series tend to get a lot of fillers but you'll get used to it. For me I just skipped them all.

I'm not particularly fond of series with 10-14 episodes, why? Because there's a high chance that the anime will be rushed and I don't want that.

My last reason is it's kinda tiring for me to search every 3 months for a new good anime series to watch. I'd rather watch a single anime with 48 episodes a year than to watch four anime with 12 episodes each for a year.

If I need to skip certain parts, it's a blow against the anime. No anime should be made with skippable parts. A story needs to make every second important or else it's a waste.

How doesn't it ? I said that it's a waste of time and I would have rather watched 100 short anime than watching 5 long mainstreams.
What difference does it make that you're watching a 100 good mini shows vs. 5 long good ones if in both scenarii you're enjoying yourself?

Does Precure count? If yes, then no.

But generally yes, because
a) I prefer marathoning over watching airing
b) I hate generic fighting shounen

Counts, because it is a meta series. That is like saying that Doraemon doesn't count because it is episodic, or Pokemon neither because each season is a different area and such. Also due to Digimon being right now in movies I didn't counted. Note that the count end with 31 Fairy Tales.

Even if you don't to count Digimon because of the meta aspect, you have that Digimon Adventure 02 is a sequel of the Adventure 1, together they have 104 episodes. You can also start to add Adventure tri, that if we go by Crunchyroll episode division will end up with 24 more episodes.

But Digimon Adventures are recognized as separate shows. Each has its own story that concludes. It's also possible to enjoy all three not in chronological order. It doesn't force you to keep up.

Recognized as separate shows. A ton of series are also recognized as separate shows. Example: Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Gt. Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden. Pokemon, Pokemon Advanced Generation, Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, Pokemon Best Wishes!, Pokemon XY.

Own Story that concludes. Episodic series have each episode with its own story that concludes by the end of it. Sazae-san has more than 6000 episodes, all of them are episodic. Will you say that it doesn't count because of that?
Also most arcs in long running series also are their own story that concludes.
Digimon Adventure 02 has characters of Adventure 1 doing stuff, 2 of those characters are even main characters in both shows. Adventure Tri main characters are all main characters of Adventure 1, and there is a big implication that the ones in Adventure 02 will be a part of it too.
All the rest of Digimon series are in the same universe and there is even strong implications of following a timeline. The latest Digimon(Data Savers and Xross) even bring characters from the previous Digimon series to appear in some episodes.

Possible to enjoy all three not in chronological order. The same exact stuff can be said to all long running series. Majority of American people only watched Dragon Ball Z, they can very well go later watch Dragon Ball and enjoy it. There is no special difference between that and Digimon.

It doesn't force you to keep up. You're not forced to keep up in any series. All anime series air in Television and viewers can start watching the series anywhere. That is specially true at the beginning of an Arc. Series like One Piece is so popular even currently because people can jump aboard at any time.
Also note that while Digimon have different seasons that have different names, there was no pause between airings, they were made to watch one right next to the other, specially the Adventure 1 and 02.

I get your point. The reason why I'm skipping fillers is because I actually knew it's a filler because I'm also reading the manga. Some fillers are good, some are just a total waste of time.

I can generally agree with what you said, although like EarWax said I'd prefer to watch the shorter anime than the long-runners. It's a greater sense of productivity, however misplaced (at least to me, maybe not for EW).

The difference is, each Digimon show has 50 episodes and actually ends.

The Dragon Ball shows got more episodes than legs on a millpede and the same goes for Naruto.

I told myself that I would stick to shorter series after being disappointed by so many of the long running anime, but then I watched Fairy Tail and really ended up liking it, so...

Also following Dragon Ball Super (even though it's one huge disappointment up to this point), which is likely going to be a long runner.

I haven't given up on long running series completely, but it feels safer to just watch short anime. Even if they suck, they only last for 12 episodes at most.

Ayy I'm currently following one and that's Arc-V. The slowness kills me sometimes but otherwise it's really enjoyable. I wouldn't start watching OP or Naruto (again) though because of the adaptation's problems. But I'm more leaned on the 'I'll take it' side, so no, I don't avoid longer anime that much.

I usually try to avoid any anime having upwards of 50 episodes because I don't have the time to spare. As a university student, I really have to be careful with what I choose to watch in my spare time. So I go for the ones with around 12-30 episodes, something that I can watch steadily but finish reasonably enough, but also something I can marathon when I have more time.

I don't avoid them. In some ways I actually prefer long-running anime over 12 episode anime. It gives you more time to connect with the characters and get engaged with the story, as opposed to 12 episode where I have a really hard time connecting with the characters and fully getting engaged in the story since its over so fast.

I have Fairy Tale on my "plan to watch" list but I'm pretty sure I will never watch it, despite my interest. 175 eps is far more than I can take.

yeah i noticed i tend to avoid anime w/ at least 100 episodes because most of the time i have 0 patience for story development loool. if it takes things too long to progress in the anime, i'll probably give up by the 3rd episode.

for example gintama is the only long running anime i actually enjoy and have the motivation to watch.

If it was said already in this topic - is it only for anime because the adaptation is always so slow + fillers. So considering this fact manga should be counted (i understand that this is anime topic). If the manga and anime woul've been on par with each other then i probably would watch it, except when anime is worse than manga like FT. So for the answer - yes, i'm reading One piece, Naruto and FT even if they now are quite bad :)

This souly depends on what u look for in an anime. If you like seeing the characters you have come to know and love develop ovr a long term scale e.g. Naruto, Onepiece. Then you would obviously not avoid long anime. If I may add my personal opinion, I avoid long term anime because you start to get use to what the characters do and you get bored very quickly. Thats why the longest anime I have watched is soul eater (check out my list plz) but like I said it depends souly on what you want from an anime

Usually yes. Because if it's 10 times longer than anime's average length for example, then I have ten times more chance to find something I like by spending that tme watching 10 series than watching one long running series. And lots of long running series aren't just ten time longer than the average length, if you catch my drift.
